Keep it Real, Monkey

This piece is unique as it is one of the few available Paste Up works by Banksy for which the artist has supplied a certificate. This is very unusual for his Street Works.

The work is part of a series of four, however Banksy and his assistant Chu were “interrupted” by the police while mounting this fourth Keep it Real, Monkey. It’s the most exclusive from this series as this Monkey both has wings and the red Banksy Tag. His assistant Chu, the previous owner of this painting, also used to be Banksy’s screen printer and has produced all his iconic works, such as the barcode, pulp fiction, and monkey queen pieces. This is also retraceable in the email correspondence between Chu and Banksy from this period.
The documents attached to this work contain these emails (Banksy is called by his true first name, Robin) and a declaration by Chu that this work was given to him by the artist, as explained in a letter of provenance.

Many collectors looking for a Banksy artwork are intrigued by the concept of a genuine wall street work as it stands closest to the artist’s roots. This specific piece has both the tension and wall power associated with true Street Art.
