biography

Throughout his life, the Belgian painter Frans van Severdonck (1809-1889) lived and worked in his hometown Brussels. He painted primarily genre scenes and landscapes with cows, sheep and poultry and is categorised as a follower of the Belgian animal painter Eugène Verboeckhoven (1790-1881). His works were sought by (inter)national clients and collectors interested in paintings with cattle scenes, a genre popular in the 18th and 19th centuries.
