Geer van Velde (1898-1977) was a dutch painter, brother of the also well known artist Bram van Velde. Already at an early age he was interested in art, but born in a poor family,  they could not afford any education in art, both men are autodidact. In 1925 Geer moves to Paris and exposes at the ‘Salon des Indépendants’. In 1937 he meets Samuel Beckett, the Irish writer, who introduces him to Peggy Guggenheim, who will expose his work in London. At that time his work is figurative and realistic. In 1944 Geer van Velde moves to Cagnes sur Mer where he meets Pierre Bonnard. From than on his work changes, becomes more lightful and the more and more geometric.T he same year, he leaves Cagnes for Cachan, near Paris, where he will stay till the end of his life. Geer van Velde had expositions in France, the Netherlands, the UK, the US, Germany and other countries.
